Standardize Item Specifications with Attributes

Attribute-based templates are introduced in release R2026g (October 2026). They can be used to create consistent part specifications (screenshot below) for better management of inventory across business unit of an organization.

  • The feature may be checked (Spec. by Attributes) per item to generate specification from attributes. If not checked, the specification may be edited directly.
  • The "Noun" and "Noun Modifier" describes a part.
  • Attributes may be used with units (US or metric) and types (inner diameter, outer diameter, length, height, etc.). They help inventory staff simplify the specification without typing units and types.
  • Material and color can be included in specifications.
  • Part specification is kept short (76 chars) for quick search. On-screen length prompts are provided at attribute editing to keep specifications within length limitation.
  • Inventory admin may customize an item list to include the attributes so the specification can be constructed in excel and uploaded to Calem.
  • The feature can be turned off - see Admin Guide for more info.
